How to Control Condensation Under a Metal Roof
Understand the condensation cycle, membrane options and ventilation needed to manage dripping beneath metal sheets.
Why droplets form
Moisture-containing air can cool against a cold sheet and condense. Droplets may grow and fall onto the building’s contents. Describe when dripping occurs and how the space is used; condensation control should not be assumed to repair a roof leak.
How a membrane helps
Dripstop temporarily captures condensation at the underside of the sheet. Stored moisture evaporates as conditions change, and ventilation allows it to leave.
The membrane needs drying conditions between cycles. It cannot simply absorb moisture indefinitely.
Choose for the roof stage
Original is applied during roll forming for new sheeting. DIY is intended for suitable existing roofs, with substrate and access assessed before installation. Where a building also needs specified thermal resistance, address that separately through the roof design.
